Each year school children grades K through 3 may nominate their favorite picture book. The top 20 choices are then voted on by students through their teacher librarian. Students will be using their Thinking Strategies as I read some of these books to my primary age students. I will also encourage classroom teachers to read aloud some of these great books. Students will vote for their favorite book in the library and I will send the ballots on to the Washington Library Media Association so they may help elect this year's winner.
Here's how to nominate titles for the 2007 list:
- Select books from titles published 2-3 years before the award year.
- Select books in picture-book format. These may be either fact or fiction. They may include photography and wordless books.
- This year's winning book cannot be nominated for the 2007 ballot, but there is no restriction on re-nominating the non-winners.
- Books are to be in print, and distributed in the United States.
- The ballot will contain not more than 20 titles.
