Big 6 Research Process   (back to home)
Last school year, our district revised the curriculum for several content areas including library. As soon as the new Library Curriculum is posted on the district Website I will provide a link to them here. One big addition to our curriculum is the inclusion of the Big 6 Research Process. I will be using variations of this process throughout the school year when instructing your students. I am very excited about using the Big 6. According to the co-creators of this research process, Mike Eisenberg and Bob Berkowitz, "The Big6 is an information literacy model. Some people call it a metacognitive scaffold, or an information problem solving strategy. Developed by Mike Eisenberg and Bob Berkowitz, the Big6 is the most widely-known and widely-used approach to teaching information and technology skills in the world. When you apply the Big6 steps, you have an essential framework to approach any information-based question."

Information Literacy is a large part of my curriculum this year. The information literate students knows how to determine what information they need, how to locate it, and what to do with that information.
