Curriculum & Programs

Express

The Express program is available to students in grades kindergarten through sixth.

Times: 6:30-8:50 AM and/or 3:00-6:00 PM

Program: Each site has a different program based on the input from the parent group and the needs of that particular group of children. General structure would revolve around a schedule of energy release right after school (structured and unstructured active play); a nutritious snack; and creative time consisting of a wide variety of games, learning opportunities, tutorial time and creative outlets.

Staff: Our site coordinator, Maria Barline, does the planning for the Express site and supervises activities. Program aides help provide adult supervision. Staff-to-student ratio is always less than one adult for every ten children present at the site. Volunteers are used extensively to augment staff and provide unique opportunities for children.

Enrollment: Enrollment forms are available in the school office. If you have questions, contact the Express office at 354-3613.

Extra-Curricular Programs

Each elementary in Spokane Public Schools is allotted a pre-determined amount of funds to offer extra-curricular experiences for students in kindergarten through 6th grade. The goal is to equally distribute the funds among the following three areas: fitness, enrichment and academic support. At Madison, we work hard to provide a wide array of activities to pique the interest of many different students. Our belief being that active, well-rounded students enhance the Madison student body and surrounding community. Past extra-curricular offerings have included: Homework Center, Tutoring, Softball, Volleyball, Basketball and Bloomsday Training. Look for information coming home throughout the year on various activities that your student(s) can be involved in.

Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)

PTO stands for Parent Teacher Organization, a group of parents, teachers and staff working together to enhance educational opportunities for students. Membership in PTO is open to all Madison parents, faculty and staff. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend these meetings and to become involved in PTO at any level to assist the staff at Madison in providing high quality education and generous quantities of fun for children.

A variety of activities are sponsored by PTO throughout the school year. Please watch for flyers about upcoming dates. Some examples of these activities include:

  • Welcome Back BBQ
  • Book Bingo
  • Young Shoppers
  • Carnival
  • Skate Nights
