Dear Parents,

We are starting the "NIGHTLY READING CLUB!" Here's how the club works!

Your child will bring home official reading coupons which you sign after he/she reads for the designated time. Each week your child will bring home a new page of coupons.

The coupon asks for 30 minutes or more of reading time. I will give credit for 30 minutes each night. The coupons must be signed by you and returned each Monday in order to get credit. I will only accept the coupons for the week we are on each Monday morning. If your child forgets the coupons they will not be accepted on any day but the day they are due.

After 600 minutes of reading, your child will be given a Certificate of Reading Achievement signed by me stating that he/she has read for 600 minutes and is commended for establishing positive reading habits at home. This certificate makes the child a member of the “Nightly 600 Minute Club.” After this goal is reached your child can start working toward membership in the 1,200 Minute Club, etc.

After your child has read you should ask him/her a few questions (who, what, where and when) to check for comprehension. If the book is too hard, help your child find an easier one. It is better to read an easier book and enjoy it than struggle over a difficult one. Daily reading increases interest, develops silent and oral reading skills and fosters self-responsibility.

GET HOOKED ON READING!!! The 30 minutes you put in today will mean you and your child are only 570 minutes from earning a certificate!!

By actively participating in this reading club with your child, she/he will feel that reading is important and will develop a positive reading habit. The success of this activity depends on your encouragement and cooperation. Thank you for your effort!!
