Assignment & Homework Policy

In building responsibility for homework and daily assignments, it is paramount that all assigned work and/or homework be completed and handed into the teacher on time. The staff at Lincoln Heights has been charged with educating the students of our community and a portion of that education is learning to be responsible.

At the primary grades (K-2), homework will include a combination of daily and weekly homework. These assignments will consist of practice work, packets, and unfinished assignments. The amount of assigned homework will be appropriate for the developmental level of the student.

Students in grades 3rd - 6th have been attending school longer and the expectation is that they will complete homework and turn it into the teacher on time. At the intermediate grades, homework mostly consists of unfinished work from classroom assignments, but will also involve special projects, reports, and other assigned work. The amount of time your child spends each night doing homework may depend on their work effort during class time. Therefore, late and missing assignments will not be accepted unless the student has an excused absence and the grade will be recorded as a zero. This policy is in alignment with the Washington State Learning Goals and our school goal of building student responsibility. It is intended to shape student work habits that will make them successful in the future. As with any policy, some students will struggle until new habits are formed that will make them successful. We want to work with you in making sure your child is making the best effort possible to complete all work on time.

Student Planners

Since it is our desire to assist our students in being more organized, we will be providing planners for students in 3rd through 6th grade. The planners are intended to help students be more organized with homework and assignments. It will also provide communication to families regarding daily assignments. Lost or damaged planners can be replaced by the student at cost. The planners will be required to go home each day so family can check them each night.

Family involvement and communication is a key to student success. We look forward to working with all of you to make this a terrific learning year for your child.
