School Discipline Policy

Behavioral Intervention Process
When students are disruptive, unsafe or continue to break school expectations, rules, and/or standards, staff members use a variety of intervention strategies. It is our intent to provide a safe and quality learning environment for all students. The following steps may be taken to ensure that all students are provided with a safe place to learn.

Classroom Plan
Each classroom will develop a classroom plan in writing. The plan will include:

  • Behavior expectations
  • A progressive correction process
  • A parent communication plan

The classroom plan is explained to students and posted in the classroom. The classroom plan will also be communicated to the parents. Some basic steps in all classroom plans include:

  • Student Warning
  • Teacher/student discussion
  • In-class consequence and appropriate parent communication (Behavior Report, Phone Contact, etc.)
  • Out of class consequence (time-out, recess detention) parent contac
  • Referral to the Office (Discipline Ticket)

Administrative School-Wide Plan
All staff at Lincoln Heights are responsible for monitoring student behavior. This is done through communication between teachers and from teachers to parents. STUDENT BEHAVIOR REPORTS are one way in which we communicate incidences to parents and guardians. These slips are notification that a problem has occurred. If primary student receive three Behavior Slips or an Intermediate student receives two slips, within a short span of time, a DISCIPLINE TICKET will be written and the student sent the principal to discuss the seriousness of the infractions. The home will be notified by phone and the ticket mailed home. The principal or designee will work with the student and parents or guardians to resolve the issues in a timely manner. Students who receive three tickets during the year are indicating a continual pattern of misbehavior and may be subject to out of school suspension. Although it is our intent to have all students remain in school, disruptive and unsafe behavior distracts from student learning and will not be tolerated.

Severe Behavior
Any child who is causing an immediate threat to the safety or well being of others may be referred directly to the principal or designee. A plan of action will be developed including, but not limited to, immediate suspension from school/class.

Weapons
Guns or knifes are never acceptable at school and are a violation of state law. Toy weapons or toys of any kind are not allowed at Lincoln Heights. Being in possession of toy weapons of any size or type may result in a suspension from school.

It is our belief that all students are capable of being cooperative and productive students. Student misbehavior is a choice and will be addressed as an opportunity for students to learn appropriate school behavior.
