In April we will be focusing on:
* Estimating to the nearest tens and hundreds
* Measurement in U.S. standards and the Metric System
* Fractions (1/2,1/4,1/8,1/3,1/6) and their relationship to each other
* Geometry : line segments, shapes, angles,perimeter,area and symmetry
* Multiplication with 2 and 3 digit numbers with carrying
* Division with 2 and 3 digit numbers and remainders
We are working on many different concepts and skills in Math. I am constantly trying to review everything we have covered so far this year.
Student should know their addition and subtraction facts by this time in the year. Every Friday, we have 10 minute time test. Some students are still on addition and subtraction facts other students are doing their multiplication facts. Your child should know where he/she is on their time test.
We have really been working on our subtraction with renaming in 2 and 3 digit numbers and will continue to review this concept of renaming throughout the year mainly as homework.
We are working on time, focusing on elapsed time, and money making the right change from a dollar using the least amount of coins.
Multiplication and division is our next focus and understanding the relationship between them. Learning the factors of a number and how to divide things(right now )in equal parts. 2 nd 3 digit multiplication will come later and division with remainders.
Problem Solving we work on everyday and week. It is very important students show their work on how they solved the problem using pictures, words explaining what they did, and numbers. They must label their answers and answer the math question in a complete sentence that is being asked.
