Ancient China Investigations   (back to home)

Ancient China Investigations are tentatively due on April 16th.  Most of the work is done in class, but there will be some expectation of work to be done outside of the classroom.  Below, you will find the rubric for grading and expectations for the assignment that students were given individually in the beginning of the project. 

Ancient China Investigation Project

To complete this investigation, you will need to do the following:

1. Border: Draw a 1” border around the paper given to you. Write the four dynasty names (Shang, Han, Zhou, and Qin) one on each side of the border and include the dates of their rule as well as labeled pictures of each dynasty’s innovations/ideas they developed.

2. Map: Draw and label a map of the Silk Road and include at least eight (8) features of the silk trade. Include the title, compass rose, and color your map. ____ date completed

3. Writing: You will need to write, edit/revise, and publish three paragraphs. The first one needs to describe Confucius and his beliefs, the second one needs to describe Shi Huangdi and his beliefs, and the third needs to explain the similarities between the two rulers. You need to use the graphic organizer first to plan your writing. You are comparing and contrasting the two rulers. _____ date completed

4. Poem: “To Live in Ancient China…” You must write a poem of at least 5 lines that describes life in Ancient China. This does not need to rhyme. Use the posters of information we have developed as well as books and articles that we have read to write a poem that begins each line with a verb. For example:

To Live in Ancient China, you must

be wealthy to eat a wide variety of foods,

be poor to only eat rice and bean curd,

enjoy silk, jade and eating with chopsticks, etc…

Be creative, but it must be factual! ____ date completed

5. Independent Research: Using your question that you were still wondering about on the “Walkabout Notes” that we did, you get to research your own answer to your own question. You decide how you will show this on your poster. You can draw, paint, write, add illustrations, diagrams, etc… or a combination of several of these to create a section that is answering your question. Please write your question in this section of the poster. _______ date completed
