TEACHING WITH LOVE AND LOGIC As you may already know, Browne is a Love and Logic school. This means we are dedicated to a philosophy of discipline based on principles. We use four basic principles which are present in most human interactions: 1. share the control 2. share the thinking 3. balance consequences with empathy 4. maintain self-concept
The "rules" then for the teacher are: 1. use enforceable limits 2. provide choices within those limits 3. apply consequences with empathy
We have such a short time together in General Music each week, I am reluctant to send a student out of my classroom. I believe that music can focus some the most restless children.
In any event of an altercation, I do pledge to your child and to you, their guardians, that I will be kind, I will be fair, and I will be understanding. Consequences will be a shared choice, and your child will be encouraged to use that event as a learning experience as opposed to a punishment.
From time to time I will expand on the principles above, offer Love and Logic tips and share "pearls" from the text. Those will offered on my main Homepage as Pearls. Please contact me with any questions concerning this education philosophy.
