Description
This is a multidisciplinary science course (chemistry, physics, biology, and earth science) that provides ninth grade students the opportunity to learn science concepts and principles, acquire reasoning and problem solving abilities, and develop inquiry skills in each of the discipline areas. The four major units in the course (atmospheric science, structure of matter and physical / chemical change, nature of energy and energy transformations involving waves, sound and light, and matter and energy in living systems) engage students in in-depth learning experiences that enable them to develop a deep understanding of the ideas of science and the ability to apply them appropriately. The ninth grade course is the third year of a four year science sequence (7th – 10th grades) that is designed to enable students to attain a fundamental level of scientific literacy that will provide the competencies needed for successful participation in our scientifically and technologically oriented society.
